Now almost 1.9 million seafarers work in the maritime industry, according to recent data from UNCTAD, with 45% of them being officers and 55% being ratings.
The top 5 countries with the most seafarers are the Philippines, Russia, China, India, Indonesia, and Ukraine – which between them account for 48.5% of the world’s mariners.
